Upcoming Meeting Covers End-of-Life Choices and Pastors' Role
Pastors and other faith leaders can play a key role in helping families understand advance care planning, which is the focus of an event called “Hello Pastors” that will be in Greenwood County.
The meeting is sponsored by My Life My Choices, a new statewide initiative that is encouraging South Carolinians to think about their values and beliefs, talk about their health care choices and write down and talk about what they would like to happen should they become seriously ill or face end-of-life circumstances.
“Hello Pastors” will be facilitated by health care activist Pastor Corey L. Kennard of Detroit's Amplify Christian Church at 6 p.m. April 30, at the Little River Multicultural Complex, 415 Riley Road N. in Hodges.
During the session, Kennard will introduce the Hello game as a way to help everyone have a conversation that is often put off until it’s too late. Faith leaders of all denominations, including full-time pastors, small group leaders, chaplains and faith community nurses, are encouraged to attend and bring lay leaders.

The meeting comes during South Carolina Healthcare Decisions Month, which is meant to raise awareness about advance directives and encourage discussions about health care preferences.
The meeting will focus on the importance of advance care planning for African-Americans to help pastors and faith leaders provide essential guidance to their congregations long before a crisis.
